Today…….I draw a line in the sand
I come from a remarkable community. There was so much sadness in this community when I started this blog, with the loss of two young lives due to a car accident. There was also a young mother of 7 fighting for her life in hospital after a pain in her stomach turned into a much more sinister bowel disorder. It creates so many thoughts of sadness, shock and strangely gratitude for all you have. It brings us all back to basics and has leveled the playing field of importance again. What is our Currency? What is important? How much is enough? What are our top 5 priorities and is our own wellbeing in that top 5?
Being a single mother to two 6ft 4 busy sons, looking after yourself is often a privilege denied due to time, money and exhaustion. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not whinging just saying these are the facts – so totally grateful to have my two sons living with me and wouldn’t have it any other way.
So, that day 22nd October, I drew a line in the sand. I use this expression because it had been bandied around at work for a few months and today I draw my own line. That day I was no longer employed by a National Corporate Company; that day I was FREE – nervous but FREE. Time to woman up and do what makes me happy, following the path of many before me and starting my own empire/blog…..
My most fulfilling role besides motherhood was starting up a women’s network, women’s mag, and women’s business awards in my community. This was hard work but truly rewarding seeing so many women fly. There was such support for each other and I see many of those same women thriving today because of the network and it fills me with enormous pride.
My connection with these women has never waned and I realized my heart is still in promoting and uplifting women of all ages. Being a 50 plus woman now it seems that once again women worldwide are all on the same path. . We are all addressing divorce, the meaning of life, children leaving the nest, aging parents, financial worry, a strong desire to travel the world and incontinence.
So, WELCOME and thank you for joining me on my journey. I am lucky to live in the nicest unit in the world, opposite the water in the nicest region of the world – Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. It is remarkable and has without question the best beaches, climate, markets, restaurants, coffee and lifestyle mixed with huge sporting and educational opportunities plus the freshest seafood and fruit and veges – all locally grown within a few kilometers of where live.
My sons will feature a lot in my blogs as they are of course awesome, but also fairly typical teens I think. One has just finished grade 12- eek! What a journey that has been – we have spent more time in cars driving to his sporting obligations than any bus driver. But it has been worth the ride. He is a very accomplished Basketball and AFL player who has just captained his school to victory in their first ever Basketball Win for the region and also for Division 2 for the state- a Gold Medal such a fabulous way to end the school journey. He has put aside his extracurricular Basketball and AFL to concentrate on his senior year at school which despite annoying a lot of coaches, has been a brilliant decision as he has pulled himself up by his bootstraps to get a good score to get into his desire course at University.
The other little darling is determined to play for the Wallabies and as such works out daily at the gym, plays rugby at any opportunity for any team even if he doesn’t belong, and snorts Protein Powder. He has had the opportunity to meet the Wallabies while they trained for the World Cup here on the Sunny Coast and they truly were the world most amazing men. (I do tend to over-exaggerate however this is not one of those times)
I have asked a dozen friends to join me as their point of view goes with mine to make a complete picture of life as a 40 plus woman in this century …..in our eyes. There will be laughs, sadness, reality, help, advice, art for you to enjoy, and of course the regular references to wine. We have linked in to 7 social media outlets also as per the links, so please take the time to enjoy our journey with us. Mwah xx
