A few blogs ago I mentioned all that was changing in my life – apart from my health journey – how I stopped spending, what I cut out, how I have stopped going to hairdressers, getting my nails done, and anything that wasn’t essential. Well, now I am regrouping and redecorating, and surrounding myself with things that give me pleasure. Strong, solid furniture and goodies rich with history.
I have been scouring the Facebook buy swap and sell sites and op shops looking for cheap furniture, crockery and books so I can start to feel like I live in a ‘home’ again after many years. I am basically – similar to most women- a home body. I want to feel at peace and comfortable in my own home and feel it reflects me and this hasn’t been the case for years. I have moved 5 times in 4 years and it is not fun. It is ridiculously expensive each time, it disrupts your life for weeks, it eats at your self-esteem and you are in limbo before and after you move for ages.
This time, however, I am in a house – a real house with 4 bedrooms and a back yard which is very exciting. I am still renting and that’s ok for now – it is affordable and we’ve been here for 6 months. It’s within one kilometre of our school, the Sunshine Coast Uni, the rugby club, a shopping centre and lots of little shops – everything we need. It’s only 1 minute to the highway north or south, in a cul-de-sac with perfect neighbours – ideal.
I’ve had two major scores in the past fortnight. The red Italian Leather sofa pictured was $90 and I LOVE it. I have always wanted one and I’m so excited – just chasing a gorgeous cheap chaise lounge now for the other side of the room. The other score was the 3 frames on the wall in the photo. A friend saw them on the ‘Sunshine Coast Buy Swap and Sell’ and let me know about them – thanks Glenda! I jumped on and contacted the owner and was first in so I got them. All 3 for $30 and the red bowl too. So I popped out to get them and thanks to Tracey E for parting with them! She had bought them in another country, had them framed professionally, and although she loved them had decided to part with them because she was changing her colour scheme and they didn’t fit in – lucky me.
You see, my friend Julia, gave me the very same card as the top one, and I used it as the ‘model’ to paint my logo for my business! Can you believe that? That is why I was so excited and luckily the lovely Glenda saw them, knew my logo and contacted me. I was also pleased I could put Tracey’s mind at rest that her beautiful framed pictures were going to someone who really loved them – and what a perfect match for the new sofa!
So I am starting to fill my home with things I love. Yesterday I also scored. I got all the boys past trophies and medals back. I never thought I would see them again and I am just so grateful that this piece of their past is back with us. It is important and I have felt unsettled for years not having their history with us. Now, I just need to find all their books and baby stuff ……
So while everyone is getting rid of their beautiful furniture and goods, I am starting to regroup and redecorate and really finding it soul soothing. Think it’s time to sand a beautiful silky oak bureau I have from my grandfather now. I believe the reason I am doing this now is all because of the health journey I am on, as I now have the energy and enthusiasm to do things other than just work and raise children. Something for me.
Anyway just wanted to say a huge thank you to Glenda and Tracey and Julia who started it all, and of course, my man for putting them up for me – he is very ocd so I knew they’d be straight…but thats another blog… Cheers Ladies xx
