What I would call a night of splendid flawlessness. Nothing out of the ordinary yet everything was perfect – the right temperature, great food and drinks, not too busy and we received a genuine welcome.
My boys and I have made most of our momentous decisions over the past 3 years at Via Italia and also celebrated many of our special occasions. We continue to return because of the beachside location, the comfy seating in a soft ‘booth’, the relaxed ambience, the cosmopolitan and contemporary menu and setting, the best chilli jam EVER, and the friendliness of Kylie, Chrystele and the rest of the staff.
Last night we didn’t know what we felt like and as you may have read we were home alone so we wanted something tasty but not Thai; fresh but not just a salad; in a nice intimate location but still on the Esplanade in Mooloolaba – Via Italia ticked all the boxes and we didn’t regret it.
I had a glass of light Italian White Sangria with white wine, lots of fresh fruit, Limoncello, mint, and Campari which was the nights special cocktail – it was light and festive and only $6 a glass – too easy to drink.
When the pizza arrived (only $12 on Pizza Wednesdays) I ordered a Chianti Aretini Viticoltori from Tuscany in the thinnest cleanest red wine goblet. It brought back memories or our stay in Rada in Chianti on our trip to Italy with 15 women……
My pizza was the most gorgeous hot smoked salmon I have eaten, smoked on the premises, and served with herbs, onions, capers, mozzarella finished with chilli oil and rocket with a light as light pizza base. I don’t care if you shouldn’t have Chianti with seafood – it was perfect and the nicest pizza I have ever eaten – yes even in Italy. There was not too much cheese and each mouthful was full of flavour.
And most exciting, we were given a mini iPad on which we ordered all our drinks! It not only kept a running tally of our costs – SUPER cool- but once you ordered your own drinks they were at the table in minutes – my favourite thing in the world.
We would definitely recommend a visit any time morning, noon or night to Via Italia on The Esplanade in Mooloolaba.
