Hi Ladies,

I hope you have had a fantastic week. Mine has been uneventful except for the trip to emergency yesterday for my son which led to the biggest splurge I’ve had in 9 weeks. Definitely not healthy, lots of protein……quite a bit of fat and not good fat but hey that’s life. My son injured himself in the last 5 minutes of the last game of the season and the physio thought it might be broken – it wasn’t x-rayed in the end but the doctor determined it wasn’t broken. So as I hadn’t eaten any lunch and it was 5pm and he was buying Kentucky Fried….yes I had the Ultimate Pack and I would love to say it was disgusting but I can’t. I didn’t think I would be able to stomach it but I had no trouble at all. So my 16-year-old son who does a huge amount of reading on health and exercise and walks the talk, said – you have to have 1 cheat meal a week – beauty – he’s a good boy. (he is fine btw)

So, the rest of the week was pretty standard – oats and fruit, a smoothie bowl or an acai bowl for brekkie;  salad and salmon for lunch and meat and veggies for dinner. Throw in a couple of bliss balls, macadamias, dates and fruit and you have it……..well except for two nights out…and the Kentucky Fried. ….but the rest was boring.

Because of these outings, I don’t expect much difference on the scales this week. I didn’t do any walking or exercise, either but I did move a lot more and parked further away from my destinations so it all helps.  The rest of the week was great and I feel better every day, so it’s so much better than I would have done 9 weeks ago. It’s a change in lifestyle – and everything I do is my choice and the results are relevant.

So, I had Mum’s birthday dinner where I had a glass of wine and the meal of salmon with tomatoes, asparagus and feta (I didn’t eat the feta, and I took off the top layer which was parmesan and I found it really fatty and oily – which is amazing as it was a healthy choice). My other night out was an evening with Turia Pitt. If you ever want to feel sorry for yourself – pick up her book – only $40 – and read it. She is truly a remarkable young woman who has more determination and drive than I have in my little finger. She didn’t dwell on her ordeal being caught in a bushfire while competing in a marathon, she talks about how she got back to the land of the living and what decisions she had to make to lead a productive, normal, high-achieving life. I take my hat off to her and admire her so very much. Think of her if you have a pimple or blemish on your face or if you burn your finger on the iron or saucepan – it just blew my mind. And, she is very funny and likeable and it was such a good night.

I had 65 glasses of Shiraz plus roast chicken with polenta slice and vegetables. I did alternate the wine with water for the first 10….I have no stop button. I also enjoyed a packet of Buderim Ginger with dark chocolate – oh do grab some – they were scrumptious…and ginger is soooooo good for you.

Every week gets easier and more enjoyable. I actually felt quick attractive at dinner which was a foreign, long-forgotten feeling. I am finding it much easier to walk, bend over, do housework, paint my toenails and just live generally. I have so much more energy making me want to do stuff, go places, and keep up with things at home. I love learning so much about health – as I have said, there are such clever people out there that have been living this lifestyle for years and are so generous with their sharing. Today I made new Bliss Balls for the week: 1/4 cup raw peanut butter, 1/4 cup walnuts, 1 cup normal dates (so much cheaper and I keep the Medjool ones for snacking); 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 tablespoon coconut oil, 1 cup rolled oats. I rolled it in coconut and it’s in the fridge for a treat if I feel like it this week.

Fruits salad is always on hand made with beautiful fresh rockmelon, pineapple, pears, apples, oranges, and strawberries – glorious – I am looking forward to the mango’s and stone fruit in Summer too.  My vegetables are usually pumpkin, peas, zucchini, asparagus or cauliflower, mushies, broccolini, or cauliflower. I love having the vegies for dinner and a few times this week I used the pumpkin in my salad the next day. Herbs play a huge role in my life and now its Spring its time to start another herb garden of my own – it’s my favourite garden and so good to be able to just pick it fresh.

Again the Acai Bowl and the Smoothy bowls are my treat – oh I just love them and yes they are addictive. My son thinks it ridiculous and pretentious however I just ignore him ….as I often do. At no point do I panic like I used to do when I was ‘dieting’ – now if I’m hungry I just grab something healthy and it’s no biggie. I nearly always have water and good snacks on hand – except for the hospital day – so I just grab a few nuts, some fruit and I’m fine. It’s that easy I can’t believe it.

I spoke to a girlfriend the other day who had read my blog and she said “hey well done you’ve lost 10 kilos” – I said: “yes feeling good, how much have you lost?” “43 kilos…” Haha how deflating, but we are both genuinely pleased for each other. She is under an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and is just powering by walking and eating well – for us both there have been diets of every description in the past, and now we are on the right track – healthy, nourishing eating with a good mindset.

I had a funky salad yesterday for lunch – avocado, lettuce, walnuts, strawberry, rockmelon, red onion with a drizzle of balsamic and it was delicious – just what I felt like – then Salmon for dinner with another mixed salad.  I made a new smoothie bowl during the week with natural yoghurt, frozen blueberries, frozen banana, kiwifruit and rockmelon and topped with toasted fruity muesli and banana. Also yesterday I put a mix of 1/2 cup of oats, 1/4 cup almond milk and 1 tablespoon chia seeds which I will have in the morning with fresh fruit for brekky for a change. I also made a raw Carrot Cake from the Unconventional Baker who makes some amazing things www.unconventionalbaker.com for the recipe.

So, all in all, happy with my lot, feeling good, feeling proud, and the thing I love the MOST is every day I don’t have to berate myself for not eating healthily and being overweight. It’s lovely to have focus and free my mind of another burden. So I just weighed in and no weightloss this week and I am not bothered at all. I feel slimmer, healthier and stronger. I have a bounce in my step today regardless and am looking forward to learning more about health and my body this week. We’ll see what next Monday brings.

Till next week ladies, enjoy, be safe and happy and will see you for Week 10! Cheers Lee
