The H Word…..Health week 2

I have been watching healthy people this week and watching what they do. It’s quite surprising how different their habits are to mine….. sounds silly and it shows how much you stick you head in the sand. Until you make a change you don’t really look as closely and you don’t want to really see.  Healthy people are living in the ‘now’ and consciously think about their choices and they make their choices count. They enjoy their food, its healthy, they choose to move more, and they have less hang ups as a result of it.

I sit here with my morning tea of fresh pineapple, a few dates and walnuts, and my 1.5 litre water bottle and think of the many changes I have made in just two weeks.  I wasn’t hungry in the earlier part of the week as I got prepared over the week-end and I made sure I had raw foods on hand to snack on. I have been eating 3 good meals a day plus morning and afternoon tea which is fruit or raw snacks or just a cup of tea. I’m finding the second week easier and I am feeling better mentally and physically.

Weekly Supplies

I have been on medication anxiety for 17 years, asthma for 3 years, and being heavy has not helped either of these. My goal is to reduce my need for them or get rid of them completely. I haven’t started exercise yet as I am just working on my food, liquids and mind at the moment  – it will come –in the meantime though I am moving more in my day to day routine and basic movement has already become easier.

I have enjoyed finding new ways of cooking and eating and started the week with a layered vegetable slice pictured which has zucchini, onions, mushrooms, sweet potato, pumpkin, carrots, 2 eggs, rocket and a small amount of mozzarella. It was great for lunches served with different meats. Every morning I start the day with fruit and oats and just change it up a bit with different fruits – I actually love it and it sustains me – I don’t stress that I am going to get hungry.

I did find the latter part of the week was harder. This is where I would normally have a glass or 6 of wine – especially Thursday and Friday. I also became less organised as the week went on and was getting home later so I was hungry and tired and cranky – this wasn’t good for anyone so I have to try to avoid this if I can. Next week I will try to have at least 3 slow cooker meals to take the pressure off. The main reason I am choosing not to drink alcohol at the moment is because it lowers my resolve – however……  I went to an Angels and Mi-Sex concert on Saturday night and had a few beers – really you cannot hear that music without having a drink for goodness sake! I am making sustainable permanent changes -not dieting – and I don’t think I will ever live without at least a little red wine in my life.

It hasn’t been hard to incorporate the changes into the family side of life – all the food was here anyway – I just had to choose the right stuff in the right proportions for myself.  The boys have noticed I have more energy and ….have been having cracks about my moods – they’ll keep. The BIGGEST shock to me …..I haven’t bought butter all week. We normally go through so much butter – now I know who had been eating it! I just can’t believe it. Bread was always my ‘go to’ food – bread, toast, bread rolls, lathered in butter and condiments. Any time of day or night, it was easy, quick and filled a hole – even this one change is huge.

I also have been getting a lot more done – both at home and at work. I can power through 3pm instead of fading and I have been getting to work early and noticed I am focused straight away. So – I get more done – feel better and happier – leave feeling more accomplished – and get home to a more organised home.

I am keeping a daily journal of my foods, moods and any recipes which I will share in a few weeks through the website. I have also never used “I” so much in any blog which is not sitting well however it is one of those”I” subjects as no-one else can do it for me. And you know what – I do believe I am up for the challenge! I have just weighed in and have lost another 2 kilos this week. Good result. See you next week. x
