This blog we picked up on social media and think its important. You may like to follow more of Emily Joy Rosens work.
One of my core beliefs is that every symptom, every challenge we face is here to teach us something. There is a lesson in it, or it’s a wake-up call and we just have to be open to tuning in and doing the work. Sometimes the work is just listening. Sometimes the work is leaving your job, your relationship, a friendship, calling someone and apologizing, facing the fact that you’ve been out of integrity, pursuing your dream, making right a wrong, or changing who you are.
The key is not to push away that which is unpleasant.
We are a culture that tends towards the suppression of symptoms, numbing of pain, disconnection, and it’s only intensifying. Which is why symptoms will intensify – which is why eating disorders, obesity, health challenges, emotional concerns and illnesses are on the rise.
As a culture we are not listening – as women we’re not listening.
I didn’t listen to my body for years – it was screaming for attention.
The fact that I’m alive is a testament to the resiliency of the body.
There were years when all day, every day, I endlessly attacked myself and abused my body. I starved myself, I binged, I purged, I exercised for hours on end into the wee hours of the morning and berated myself every time I caught a glimpse of my reflection. I lived in a sea of self loathing. I punished myself relentlessly.
I had so abandoned my body, and my self.
So, my wish for you is that you never abandon yourself,
that you don’t let the voices of others get so loud that you cannot hear the whisper of your heart and the beckoning of your soul.
Turn your wounds into wings.
Let your pain guide you into a deeper understanding of self.
Your greatest hurt can become your greatest revelation.
This I promise you.
Love,
